The coronavirus pandemic has put journalists under unprecedented strain.
The public are relying on us to keep them up-to-date with probably the fastest-moving story since the Second World War.
That means we’re processing huge volumes of information every day, telling unbelievably sad stories every day, and inevitably it’s having an impact on our mental health.
The problem is, until now, we’ve not had a proper conversation about it.
That’s why Tom Hourigan set up newsbreak – a place for journalists to discuss their mental health, to tell their own stories of handling really difficult news and to share tips and advice on the things they’re doing to help themselves.
Tom recently appeared on the Journalism.co.uk podcast to talk about newsbreak’s mission:
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be posting blogs, videos and other content from journalists and mental health experts – and we’d love for you to be involved.
Get in touch, and let’s take a newsbreak.
