The coronavirus pandemic put journalists under unprecedented strain.
The public relied on us to keep them up-to-date with one of the fastest-moving stories since the Second World War.
That meant we processed huge volumes of information every day, telling unbelievably sad stories every day, and inevitably it had an impact on our mental health.
It proved to be a watershed moment – because until that point, we hadn’t had a proper conversation about mental wellbeing in newsrooms.
That’s why Tom Hourigan set up newsbreak – a place for journalists to discuss their mental health, to tell their own stories of handling really difficult news and to share tips and advice on the things they’re doing to help themselves.
Tom appeared on the Journalism.co.uk podcast to talk about newsbreak’s mission – listen here.
Since launch, we’ve posted blogs, videos and other content from journalists and mental health experts – and we’d love for you to be involved.
Get in touch, and let’s take a newsbreak.
